Ben Rose Stirs Up a Media Storm

On Friday, May 29, in spite of the fact that a large crowd had formed and was dancing up and down the block, city bi-law officers came to shut Ben down on the basis of the a new, "no amplification" rule on busking permits this year.

Check out the links below to see Ben (and other local musicians) interviewed about the controversy over amplification rules, which shows no sign of blowing over.

If you support Ben Rose and his music, please read the following articles and feel free to comment, or email Ben with your support!

Cheers,

Does Cowtown Need Another Jam?

Hey Music Lovers,
Does Cowtown need another jam? Not if you ask me. I've always felt that jams were the bars of Cowtown's cheap unimaginative attempt to make money off music without paying musicians.
If you agree with me then you'll no doubt wonder why I invite you to my open stage Monday night at the Auburn Saloon.
Let me explain. It starts with my apartment being very crowded with my suddenly mobile baby on the loose and ...anyway it seemed like a good idea to park my speakers at the Auburn Saloon when I'm not using them on the weekend. It started with just wanting to make space but once my head gets spinning... you see I've always wanted to book the music I want to hear into a cool room with art on the walls and no TVs or VLTs and no people who weren't there to hear the music. The Auburn Saloon, on Sundays and Mondays matches all those criteria. Right down to the "no people".
I know what you're thinking. What kind of crappy jam doesn't have any VLTs and TVs?
My jam doesn't have any VLTs or TVs and I guess it goes without saying that no UFC fights will be shown and no jam will be pushed till 11 because the Flames made the playoffs. (Fuck the Flames by the way) Also no pool table.
I want to book other people to host it but first I need to show the management signs of life. There is literally nobody there ...except me and my excellent sound system so if you happen to have friends that like to drink - not necessarily alcoholics but people who like to drink beer more than tea bring them to balance out all the damn tea drinking. Or not. I actually like playing to a completely empty room. All the better to enjoy the sound of my own voice. It starts at 7 and goes till at least 11.

Maybe I'll see you there

Home for Christmas

Here's a video of the saddest song ever written. For anyone who gets wistful around the holidays... Even the cat looks sad.

Ben's CD finally available!

Yes it's true. My first full length CD of originals, "The Cost" is finally available for purchase. No kidding. Check it out here.
